John Howie Jr and The Sweethearts @ Carrboro Music Festival

This past weekend was Carrboro Music Festival! It was a great event for such a small town. There must have been 15 stages or so, each featuring 5 or 6 shows during the day. I was happy to see several artists on the schedule who’ve been featured on Taproot Radio in the past, including Birds and Arrows, Mandolin Orange, and Tokyo Rosenthal.

But one of the crowd favorites every year is John Howie Jr, Former front man of The Two Dollar Pistols, he’s now got two projects, John Howie Jr and the Rosewood Bluff and John Howie Jr and the Sweethearts.

At the CMF, he was in his Sweethearts incarnation featuring Nathan Golub on pedal steel and Billie Feather on upright bass and banjo. There were several new songs on the play list, at least new to me. And there was rockabilly cover of a Charlie Feathers’ “One Hand Loose,” which was fun. He closed with one of his most popular songs, “You Ruined Everything.”
