2011 was the best year ever for Taproot Radio the site continues to grow and the music is pouring in like never before. I’m excited to jump in to 2012 with both feet.
Alas, not much music has come in this week between Christmas and New Years. So I added a few CDs that fell through the cracks in 2011, including the new Ryan Adam CD, Ashes and Fire, which I thought was a good solid new direction for Ryan Adams. He’s still go the songwriting chops that he’s always had. Also added the new Jakob Dylan CD, Women and Country, which reminds be of the Robert Palmer/Alison Krauss collaboration from a few years back.
I’m starting a new feature for 2012, the Taproot Road Song of the week. Yeah, it’s like you think. Songs that are great tunes to listen while speeding down the road at full blast with the radio turned up. The inaugural Road Song is “Whammer Jammer” and extremely well known and and great example of what I’ll be aiming for. Oh, and it happens to be one of my wife’s favorite tunes. Read below for more details. In future weeks, I’ll be bringing you road songs that are less well known, but just as good. So stay tuned. Got a suggestion for a great road song? On episode 68 of the Taproot Podcast, we feature a special audio show about the making of The Lost Notebooks of Hank Williams. 13 singer/songwriters were given the opportunity to set lyrics from Hank Williams’ notebooks to music and perform them on the CD. On this show hosted by Alejandro Escovedo, we hear the artists such as Jack White, Rodney Crowell, and Alan Jackson talk about what it was like to “collaborate” with Hank Williams.
