I had the great pleasure of attending Eilen Jewell‘s show at the Berkeley Cafe on Friday, November 13, 2009. Her show was largely the same material that she played at her recent Shakori Hills show, but this is a very good thing, given that her original material is so strong and her choice of cover material fits her style. Covering everyone from George Jones to Billie Holiday to Loretta Lynn to Bessie Smith, Eilen Jewell has an amazing knack for making lots of different styles go together
I had the opportunity to record her show which I’ve posted here. All of Eilen Jewell‘s here CDs are available on iTunes and while I recommend all of them, her latest CD Sea of Tears
is a must buy and it will be making lots of “Best of 2009″ lists this year.
