With Hobex and Dillion Fence being more or less inactive these days, Greg Humphreys has been going through his back log of written songs, the songs he’s been holding on to for himself, the songs he calls his trunk songs, and has put them out as a solo effort. Trunk Songs wanders from swingy blues to deep twang, to indie folk but no matter the genre window dressing all the songs have a deep appreciation for the beauty of acoustic string instruments, down-to-earth ballads, heart-felt turns of phrase. Highlights for me are “I Cover The Waterfront,” “Buttons and Strings,” and “Crazy As A Loon.”
