Jeff Hart and the Ruins

Last weekend was the Carrboro Music Festival. Unfortunately I was on the road and missed most of the bands. But I did get a chance to check out Jeff Hart and the Ruins at the stage behind Tyler’s Taproom on Main Street.

I’d first heard of Jeff Hart as the co-lead of the Brown Mountain Lights and have always enjoyed their Appalachian inspired country-rock.

So I was anxious to hear him in this band. They were good and immediately curried my favor by playing one of my favorite Son Volt Songs.

I managed to get a recording of one of their songs on stage. Unfortunately the sound system was not quite up to the task and the vocals didn’t come out well. I was pleased with how my Edirol R-09 captured the performance, but it can only record what it hears so if the sound mix coming out of the show speakers is bad, there’s only so much it can do.

In any case, Jeff Hart and the Ruins was a great band to listen to on a Sunday afternoon while standing around drinking beer with friends. So they were the perfect band for the afternoon.

Recent got to see a performanc of The Cogburns down in Atlanta. Mighty fine psycho-billy. I almost didn’t think there were any remaining purveyors of this kind of music anymore.
