Red Dog Tracks by Chip Taylor and Crrie Rodriguez,

Chip Taylor has an impressive songwriting history. He’s the guy who wrote “Wild Thing” for The Troggs (and everyone under the sun as covered it.) His songs have been covered by everyone from Linda Ronstadt to Janis Joplin to The Hollies. The songwriting skills are evident here. Here’s a songwriter who’s not afraid to experiment with tempo changes, key changes, and vocal styles. This CD goes deep country and blue grass. At its best (1,2) it sounds like a good post-Deadhead CD. At it’s worst (7), it sounds too deeply hillbilly for me to enjoy.

Reminds me of a young, slightly less nasal Willie Nelson. GREAT songwriter in the classic honky tonk style, sad but with an upbeat sense of life. Some tracks (3 especially) have southern rock vibe.
